Apologies for the last minute, wanted to send this earlier. I'd like to meet with you all tomorrow between 11:00 and 12:30, after the sugar rush of celebratory cake binging to see with you how things are going with the current special issue :)
See you tomorrow!
Next week in the building next door!

Lecture 1: 'Branding Terror' by Artur Beifuss
How do terrorist groups market their cause - given that few people
really want to die? Artur Beifuss will show which sophisticated means
terrorist organisations are using to spread their messages. The focus of
his talk will be on jihadism and the popular visual culture it has
created. He sees a role for designers, advertising creatives, and
branding consultants in combating the ideology of terrorism by
Lecture 2: 'Racist Bots & Memes' by Florian Cramer
Can you spot the antisemitic meme in Twitter messages on EU politics?
How can a Microsoft chatbot be turned into Neonazi artificial
intelligence within 24 hours? How do racist social media conspiracy
theories translate into everyday life, including your classroom? Florian
Cramer's presentation will take the extreme right as an example of
extremist ideas, in the disguise of jokes, irony and transgression, have
become entangled with technology, popular visual culture and everyday

Thanks to gnd:
- Add your public keys here: https://git.xpub.nl/user/settings/keys
- you can now pull/push via ssh (port 2501)
- either clone your repos again via ssh, or edit your .git/config to
point to the right method
This will make the interaction with gitea much much much easier.
Ask to André/Michael/Myself, your fellow students, or on this list if
you need help with setting this up!
Hello Bohye, everyone,
Sorry, was AFK!
OK it did not work then.
@Michael: can you check with gnd, so you get your account sorted on the
new XPUB VM, so that you can also `systemctl restart etherpad` if needed
in the future.
@All: I think I fixed it, I modified the config a bit further, if I
manually kill it, it seems to come back to life. Fingers crossed!
@Everyone: I tweaked the config a bit more,

FYI, I tweaked a bit the service setting for etherpad, and *maybe*,
*hopefully*, it will restart on its own next time it crashes.
If it crashes, wait 10-15sec and see if it comes back to life. If not,
well, shout here...
To keep you in the loop, there's this conf in May
It's part of a broader project (Maak het Publiek) and the current
special issue you're working on received a bit of support from this
project, which is why André is able to spend a couple more days with you
all this trimester. We also discussed to have the outcome of the current
special issue presented at the conference, with either Manetta or Roel
(or both) and some XPUB staff. I think the conf will be interesting so
I suggest we should all go there anyway? XPUB would then cover train
tickets (independently from your €100,- travel/attendance budget that I
was mentioning in a previous email).
There's a call for workshops:
I think it could be relevant and super useful for some of you to submit
something and benefit from feedback/visibility at this conf. Some of the
themes resonate very strongly with your works. We'll cover travel and
extra expenses if they can't be provided by the conf.
Please keep Leslie and I posted if you intend to submit something!
(deadline is tomorrow but the application is *super* short, 200 words)
As some of you know already, XPUB and LB are being audited this year
(regular national external audit, happens every 6-7 years, an
independent panel is assessing what we do and how we work in a
nutshell), and the audit is the same week as the conf. I will need some
of you (XPUB1 and XPUB2) to be around for this. However I believe there
won't be any overlap with the conf (Audit starts on Monday, finishes
Wednesday afternoon and conf starts Wednesday evening).
