Bibliotecha feedback
by Yoana Buzova
Hello!
We'd like to collect some feedback from the Bibliotecha
<https://bibliotecha.info/> community in regards to the project. Here
<https://framaforms.org/bibliotecha-feedback-1558904004> you can find a
short form we made for that purpose.
Since launching Bibliotecha as a project in 2013 many things changed, for
one, some of the initial contributors founded and joined Varia
<https://vvvvvvaria.org/>. This is a artist-run initiative for developing
collective approaches to everyday technology. Within the context of Varia
we chose to make more time for maintaining some of the earlier collective
projects, including Bibliotecha. As time goes by these collective
multi-author projects tend slip out of sight as it becomes difficult for
individuals to take ownership and give the project the care it deserves. As
part of this effort we want to (partly) re-write and update the software
stack. This with the aim to improve documentation for installation and
usage, ease the facilitate longer term maintenance and reach out more to
the community.
Bibliotecha is a voluntary community project, a framework to facilitate the
local distribution of digital publications within a small community. This
form aims to collect some user feedback from people involved in some way
with the Bibliotecha project. Bibliotecha is a framework to facilitate the
local distribution of digital publications within a small community. It
relies on a microcomputer running open-source software to serve books over
a local wifi hotspot. Using the browser to connect to the library one can
retrieve or donate texts. Bibliotecha proposes an alternative model of
distribution of digital texts that allows specific communities to form and
share their own collections.
If you don't feel like filling in text and feel like just talking, we can
do a teleconference (skype, etc.?)
Thanks for taking the time to fill it in,
Yoana (part of the Bibliotecha team)
